Cyber Crime is not without costs and these costs increase daily. These losses manifest themselves in various ways. The usual way to account for the costs of cyber crime is to reduce it to monetary terms. While this exercise is useful it does not account for the enormous toll of non-monetary costs. Much of the consequences of cyber crime are not reported. This fact alone makes monetizing the full cumulative effect of the loss difficult but it is in the billions of dollars per year.
Cyber crime can result in loss of life, loss of dignity, loss of time and loss of employment. Although the media has given the impression that the cause of all cyber crime is the work of hackers, the truth is that insiders perpetrate most events.
This page will feature past and current incidents of cyber-crime. The lesson to be learned is that crime has consequences, both for the victim and ultimately the perpetrator.
